The third-grade program uses the Be My Disciples curriculum by RCL Benziger. This is a year of delving deeper into the four pillars of the Catholic Church and exploring these pillars in the light of having received the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. These pillars are the Profession of Faith (the Creed), the Celebration of the Christian Mystery (Liturgy and Sacraments), Life in Christ (morality and the Ten Commandments), and Christian Prayer (the Lord’s Prayer). There is a community gathering time at the beginning of each session where 2nd-6th grades come together to discuss a common topic, sing praise to God, and pray before breaking out into grade-level groups in a classroom setting. Each child will be given a folder for the year and will bring home a chapter in this folder each week that they have discussed in class, which you may look through to further review various concepts that were presented during the religious education session. There is also a family page that you may utilize to take the lesson further.
